Hey,

Post 2 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Tuesday, 01-Feb-2005 20:19:32

what's the point of this topic may I ask?

Post 3 by ItsAConspiraZ (This site is so "educational") on Tuesday, 01-Feb-2005 20:27:09

Oh that is weird, how did that happen? I wrote quite a bit more but it was all eaten or something. What I said was basically how come women, when expressing their opinions think that they are being bitchy? I saw this kind of behavior on the zone and in real life... don't worry people, if you state that you think cooldude3245 is being an asshole you are not a bitch. Men do it far more obnoxiously, and they are sort of admired for it, he's a man because he makes decisions.

Again apologies for the seemingly pointless topic,
James

hey! Nice thing to say!

I'm afraid this topic still seems a bit pointless, but whatever.

What is this stupid bitch thing all about? I just don't get it.

Post 7 by Japanimangel (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 02-Feb-2005 10:49:01

he's basicly saying that if a girl points out her opinion, most people think she's being a bitch but if a guy has something to say, no one says he's being mean or bitchey and rather he is getting his point across, and no matter what the point, it is a good one

Post 8 by Chels666 (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Wednesday, 02-Feb-2005 13:12:36

well said! lol Yeah, it kind of seems like a double standard. I mean, when men complain or whatever, no one just calls them a bitch, or tells them that they're bitching or whatever, but when a woman does it, it's like "Wow, what a bitch," It's like, what? Don't women have the right to complain once in a while? lol

Post 9 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Wednesday, 02-Feb-2005 13:40:07

Hmm, have to say this topic is totally gender oriented and I totally disagree with it. In my experience "bitch" is used for someone who is aggressively unfair, wants to have her ways with everyone/everything or treats a friend really badly. Neither me nor any of my friends here have used an opnionated woman as an example of a " bitch " I think it's great women have opinions and somehow I've always failed to note that whole gender competition thing and gendder stereotypes, I think this post is reinforcing a totally wrong stereo type. Some people may do this, but "some people" do everything and they should be corrected. I strongly disagree with the centiment here that guys use the word so frivellously and that women are not allowed to express themselves, it's way too much of a generalization to hold water, if you refer to a specific area/age group or social class or race even may be you'd have more of a point but it would still be a very strong generalization. I am very happy that the status of women and girls is just totally different now than it was even 10 years ago. I love and respect my female friends and some of them are into hard core science and I think it's really cool.
cheers

I don't think he was saying he thought that way, but that it seems society can define an opinionated woman as a bitch, when a man is not put down for being the same way. I think despite many advances for women, that society doesn't want to let go of all the old ideas about the supposed superiority of the male and so forth.

Post 11 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Wednesday, 02-Feb-2005 17:03:42

Hmm, well, that's my problem exactly. He's fine thinking this, it's his opinion but I want to see anyone back up the theory that "society" thinks an opnionated woman is a " bitch " those who I know don't think that way at all and that's my local "society" I know a very limited subset of society but in order to say society thinks a certain way then at least most of the people in it must think that way and I don't know anyone so .. I just want him to bck things up a little bit more here or someone else to give more concrete views, if you will. :) Just defeinding my gender here we're anything but perfect but I feel we deserve some credit some of the time

Well, I see the point, I mean men since the beginning of time have been the more outspoken and vocal sex, so now that women have relatively equal rights, and I use that term lightly, they're considered a bitch because society has a tendancy to be stuck in the past, instead of being more progressive toward the future. The reason I said that I use the term relatively equal rights lightly is because women have the right to vote, the right to work, and do most anything else, but if you look closely, they don't have the same rights when it comes to pay, and other benefits in working society. Anyway, that's my long and drawn out point that is probably meaningless, but that's life anyway.

Women have the right to equal pay over here, by virtue of the equal Pay Act 1970. But that's by the by as far as this topic is concerned. i don't agree that women are condemned to the status of bitch for putting their opinions across. That term is reserved for much more grave misdemeanours. Opinionated women are far more likely to be called arrogant if their opinions are too forthwright, but then again, so are men. You have arrogant people from both genders.

If you want equality in this issue then listen to gay men complaining jeez they could bitch for their respective country...But I agree on the point of women being viewd as bitches its tired out however, if you have ever worked with a crowd of women, you will be aware of the cruel backstabbing and sometimes very subtle, superficial, snipping that goes on, then they do themselves no favours and conform to the stereotype ...

Post 15 by ItsAConspiraZ (This site is so "educational") on Thursday, 03-Feb-2005 14:03:51

Well what I meant ws that women are not necessarily deamed as bitches for expressing their opinions (though they sometimes are) not only that but also think they are being bitches... I sort of think we have them conditioned that way a bit. My example of bitches in society hmm... say the president. When the democratic guy (who's name I would write but not sure if I'd spell it correctly) was going people kept saying he flip flopped while Bush stood strong by his beliefs and that. Women are encouraged to flip flop... do you honestly think Hillory (god with the spelling) will become president in 2008?

I think society well men are conditioned to fear women with strong opinions, because they are the creators of life,I feel that men have hidden behind this excuse and have villified women for years, for being forthright powerful or courageous in their views..I say more power to the women!

Well, I don't think women who express there oppinions are bitches, I'm just saying that society seems to have that view of them. Hell, lots of women will tell you themselves that they're bitches when they express their oppinions. I know a lot of women who when you first meet them and they say I speak my mind a lot, the next sentence out of there mouth is that's right, I'm a bitch. So not only does it come from the men, but a lot of times, it comes from the women as well.

That's also what I said.
